Hello

A significant decrease in urine output for 4 days after diarrhea is concerning, even if your baby is feeding, playing, producing tears, and sweating. The concentrated urine suggests she may still be mildly dehydrated, especially in hot weather.

Continue breastfeeding frequently and offer small amounts of water only if advised for her age and according to your pediatrician’s recommendations. Keep her cool and monitor the number of wet diapers closely.

Because she is having very light diapers after 10 hours, she should be examined by a pediatrician today to assess her hydration and kidney function. She may need an examination and possibly urine or blood tests.

Go to the emergency department immediately if she becomes sleepy or difficult to wake, refuses feeds, has no tears when crying, develops a dry mouth, sunken eyes, persistent vomiting, fever, or has no urine for 8–12 hours despite adequate feeding.

Based on the information provided, your 8-month-old daughter may be experiencing mild dehydration or concentrated urine following her recent diarrheal illness, especially given the hot weather and the fact that she is producing very little urine for prolonged periods (more than 10 hours between lightly wet diapers). While it is reassuring that she is breastfeeding well, eating and drinking normally, playing, sweating, and producing tears when crying, four days of persistently reduced urine output warrants medical assessment. Continue offering frequent breastfeeding and additional fluids appropriate for her age, and monitor her closely. Because decreased urine output in an infant can sometimes indicate ongoing dehydration or another underlying issue, she should be evaluated by her pediatrician within the next 24 hours. Seek urgent care sooner if she becomes lethargic, develops fever, stops drinking, has a dry mouth, no tears when crying, sunken eyes, or goes 12 hours or more without a meaningful wet diaper. Personal consultation is available.

Hello Thanks for sharing these details—this helps a lot. In hot weather, and especially after a recent illness like diarrhea, it’s common for babies to pass less urine if they’re a bit dehydrated. Concentrated, scant urine is a sign that her body is trying to conserve water.

Since she is: - Eating, drinking, and playing normally - Not showing signs of severe dehydration (like no tears when crying, sunken eyes, dry mouth, extreme lethargy, or persistent vomiting)

This is likely mild dehydration, but it’s important to act early in babies.

What you can do: - Offer more frequent breastfeeds, even if she doesn’t seem very hungry or thirsty. - Try to keep her cool and avoid overheating. - Monitor her for any changes—especially if she becomes less active, stops feeding well, develops a dry mouth, or has no urine at all for 12 hours.

When to see a doctor urgently: - If she becomes very drowsy, irritable, or lethargic - If she stops feeding or drinking - If she has no urine output for 12 hours - If you notice sunken eyes, dry mouth, or no tears when crying

For now, increase breastfeeding and keep a close watch. If you’re ever unsure, it’s always safest to check with her pediatrician.

Thank you
