Tingling between the shoulder blade and spine on the left side, especially when it comes and goes, can often be attributed to nerve-related issues. Since you’re describing a moderate tingling sensation without any accompanying pain or recent injuries, a common cause could be postural stress. A sedentary lifestyle often leads to poor posture, which can place strain on the muscles and nerves in your upper back. This can sometimes irritate nerves and cause tingling or even an itchy sensation. Another possibility is a condition known as thoracic outlet syndrome, where nerves or blood vessels in the space between your collarbone and first rib become compressed. This is particularly possible given your sedentary lifestyle since certain arm positions might exacerbate symptoms. Additionally, cervical radiculopathy cannot be entirely ruled out, although it’s less likely in absence of neck pain; this condition involves a pinched nerve in the neck that can cause tingling farther along the shoulder or arm. Since stress levels are moderatley elevated, tension can accumulate in the shoulders and exacerbate nerve compression. To address this, consider incorporating regular stretching and strengthening exercises targeted at your upper back, neck, and shoulders. This can help improve posture and potentially reduce nerve compression. Ergonomic adjustments to your work environment, like ensuring your computer screen is at eye level and using an adjustable chair, can also alleviate the strain. Regular breaks from sedentary activities to move and stretch can be beneficial. If symptoms persist or worsen, consulting a healthcare professional like a physical therapist or general practitioner would be prudent to further evaluate these symptoms and potential underlying issues. This specialist can perform a thorough physical examination and possibly recommend imaging studies or other diagnostic testing if there’s concern about nerve impingement or less common causes of tingling. It’s crucial not to ignore persistent or worsening symptoms, so professional advice would be key in that context.
