Doctors’ responses
Rabies cannot develop if you have taken the vaccine correctly and your dog remains healthy it’s 100% preventable when treated like you did. So yes, you are safe. There is no need for extra treatment just complete your vaccine doses as per schedule and keep calm.
Hello, If your dog is vaccinated you are safe. But for better safety, get RABIES vaccination 4-5doses as per schedule. Rabies is not curable once it occurs, so we have to take vaccination to prevent it.
Take care
Rabies can be a serious concern, but it sounds like you’re already on the right track by receiving the rabies vaccine promptly—within 24 hours of the incident. When a domesticated dog with an up-to-date rabies vaccination causes a scratch or minor bite, the risk of transmission is generally low. However, it’s always better to err on the side of caution, which is why starting the post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) series of rabies vaccines is a standard recommendation.
With regards to next steps, it’s important to continue your scheduled series of rabies shots as directed by your healthcare provider. Usually, the PEP regimen involves multiple doses over several weeks. Make sure to adhere to the timeline provided to ensure maximum efficacy of the vaccine. Since you’ve started the vaccination promptly, the risk of developing rabies is significantly minimized.
If you’re experiencing any unusual symptoms such as fever, confusion, or nerve issues, consult a healthcare professional immediately. While the vaccine is highly effective, it’s critical to follow through with the full series. Keep in mind that proper wound care also plays a significant role—make sure the scratch is cleaned thoroughly with soap and water.
In addition, continue observing your dog for any odd behavior, even if it’s vaccinated. If you have any more specific concerns or notice anything unusual about your dog’s behavior, contact your veterinarian for advice. Staying informed and vigilant is key, but completing your vaccine schedule should greatly reduce any concerns about rabies.
Hello Anshu,
You’re SAFE, since the scratch came from your own fully vaccinated dog and you took the rabies vaccine within 24 hours, there is no need to worry.
Rabies is 100% preventable when the vaccine is given correctly and on time, as you’ve done.
🛑Just make sure to complete the full vaccine schedule (usually on Day 0, 3, 7, and 14). Rabies immunoglobulin isn’t needed in your case because the scratch was minor, and the dog is healthy and vaccinated.
🛑Keep observing your dog for 10 days; if it stays healthy, there’s no rabies risk at all.
YOU ARE DOING EVERYTHING RIGHT, No EXTRA TREATMENT NEEDED
I hope this helps Thank you
Hello dear See after careful evaluation of your query, you are safe since dog is fully vaccinated and you also have taken rabies vaccine I suggest you to please complete full course of vaccine to be 100 percent safer Hopefully no complications could occur in future Regards
Hello Anshu Yes its totally safe as your dog is vaccinated but … Just make sure to complete the full vaccine schedule (usually on Day 0, 3, 7, and 14). No need of Rabies immunoglobulin in your case because the scratch was minor, and the dog is healthy and vaccinated…
Thank you
Hi Anshu kumar, Kindly donot panic Kindly take the full course of antirabies vaccine Kindly donot worry because its your home dog and its fully vaccinated Kindly donot allow your dog to lick the area of scratch Kindly wash the wound with soap and water Nothing will happen takecare
Since your dog is fully vaccinated and you received the rabies vaccine within 24 hours, the risk of rabies is extremely low. Make sure the wound is cleaned properly and follow the full vaccine schedule as prescribed; no additional treatment is usually needed. Specialist consultation is advised (Doctor/Healthcare provider) to complete post-exposure care.
Hello Anshu, I understand this might be worrisome. If you are taking the vaccines as advised by your doctor, there are very less chances that you’ll contract the disease. Just apply “Ointment Fusidic Acid” over the scratches twice a day × 5 days. You will be fine.
Feel free to reach out again.
