liver failure ke lakshan - #13952

Manvi

I am freaking out a bit because my dad was recently diagnosed and the doctor mentioned something about liver failure ke lakshan. He’s been feeling really fatigued for the last few months, but I thought maybe it was just aging or something. Then out of nowhere, he started showing some yellowing in the eyes and skin. I thought, “Is that normal?” And now there’s this swelling in his abdomen, like, a balloon. The doctor said these are liver failure ke lakshan and now I can’t stop thinking about what that means. He also mentioned some confusion and forgetfulness, which really scared me! I thought it was just him being out of it, you know? We've run tests, but waiting for results is nerve-racking. Can anyone share what other liver failure ke lakshan we might be missing? I read something about changes in appetite and even dark urine? Should I be expecting more things to show up? And like, how quick does this all happen? I’m honestly worried about him and don’t want to miss any signs, but it feels like I’m overwhelmed with info. What should we do next? Any advice would be appreciated—thanks so much.

Doctors’ responses

Liver failure presents with a range of symptoms, which can indeed be quite alarming. You’re right about jaundice, where the skin and eyes become yellow, being a common sign. Fatigue is also typical, and can often be misattributed to aging like you thought. Abdominal swelling, known as ascites, occurs due to fluid accumulation and is another key indicator. Confusion and forgetfulness, medically referred to as hepatic encephalopathy, can happen as the liver’s ability to filter toxins from the blood deteriorates. You mentioned possible changes in appetite, which might be seen, as the liver plays a role in metabolism. Also, dark urine is indicative of bilirubin accumulation, especially if jaundice is present. It’s essential to keep a close eye on these symptoms. In terms of progression, liver failure can be acute or chronic; acute can develop rapidly over days to weeks, whereas chronic failure unveils over months or years. It’s critical to follow up promptly with your healthcare provider, as a detailed assessment is vital for understanding liver function through blood tests like liver function tests, imaging studies, or possibly a biopsy depending on the severity. Immediate medical attention is crucial if you observe severe fatigue, confusion, bleeding, or more pronounced jaundice, as these may require urgent intervention. Dietary adjustments, limiting alcohol intake, staying hydrated, and adhering to prescribed medications all help, but personalized care under medical supervision is essential for managing liver failure.
