home remedies to test pregnancy - #15195

Siddharth

I am a little nervous cuz my period is late and I’ve been looking into home remedies to test pregnancy. I mean, I'm not sure how reliable they are, ya know? I’ve heard some say vinegar can be used, like, if you mix it with urine, and then there's this thing about baking soda too?? But honestly, I don’t know if I trust any of these home remedies to test pregnancy. I did a DIY baking soda test yesterday and it fizzed a lot, but I don’t know if that means anything or it was just the baking soda? My friend said she found some kinda old-school home remedies to test pregnancy that her grandma used, but like, does that even work? I’ve also noticed I’ve been feeling kinda weird, like really tired and a bit nauseous, but that could just be stress, right? I'm worried I might need a more definitive way to check if I'm pregnant. Has anyone else had any experience with these home remedies to test pregnancy? Would really appreciate any thoughts before I go spend money on an actual test!

Doctors’ responses

Home remedies like vinegar or baking soda for testing pregnancy aren’t reliable or scientifically backed, despite what you might have heard or seen online. While it’s understandable to be curious, these methods don’t test the hormonal changes specific to pregnancy. They can’t accurately detect the presence of the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) in urine, which is the key indicator used in pregnancy tests found at the pharmacy. The fizzing reaction with baking soda, for instance, could simply be due to the acidity or alkalinity in your urine rather than an indication of pregnancy. If your period is late, utilizing an over-the-counter pregnancy test would be a much more dependable option. They’re designed to detect hCG hormone levels with a good degree of accuracy, especially if taken after a missed period. Many pregnancies are confirmed this way before people approach a healthcare provider. Given that you’ve noted symptoms like tiredness or nausea, which could indeed be due to stress or other factors, it’s more prudent to get a definitive result. Should the test return positive or if symptoms persist and affect daily life, see a healthcare provider for further evaluation and guidance. Early involvement with a healthcare professional can provide reassurance and necessary support whatever the result.
