can a dengue patient eat chicken

Krishna

I am really worried about my brother who just got diagnosed with dengue last week. He’s been feeling super weak and has a high fever, and I just want to help him recover as best as possible. He usually loves chicken, especially in soups, but I keep hearing different things from friends about what he can eat during this time. Like, can a dengue patient eat chicken? I mean, is it safe for him right now? His doctor didn’t really give us much advice on food, just told us to keep him hydrated and to monitor his platelet count. He’s been really nauseous and I wonder if chicken soup might calm his stomach or make things worse? I heard it could vary from person to person, and some people are saying that can a dengue patient eat chicken might not be a good idea because of its richness, while others think it can provide needed protein. Ugh, I'm just confused and want to make sure I'm doing everything right for him. If he can’t eat chicken, then what do I even prepare for him? Any advice would really be appreciated!

Yes, a dengue patient can eat chicken, and it might actually be beneficial for your brother to consume chicken soup. It’s a good source of protein, which is crucial for the body’s repair processes and maintaining strength, especially when he’s feeling weak and dealing with symptoms like high fever. The belief that chicken is too rich or could worsen his condition is not supported by evidence, so you can feel reassured offering it as part of his diet — assuming he can tolerate it and doesn’t feel more nauseous after consuming it. That said, it’s important that chicken is well-cooked and served in a form that’s easy to digest; soups are great because they’re also hydrating and can be soothing if nausea is present. You should aim to keep meals as bland and simple as possible to help with nausea. Alongside chicken soup, you might consider including other easily digestible foods, such as rice, oatmeal, and bananas, which can ease digestive issues. Hydration is critical, so continue encouraging him to drink plenty of fluids like oral rehydration solutions, water, and juices. Keep monitoring his symptoms, particularly if nausea worsens or other concerning symptoms like severe abdominal pain or bleeding occur, in which case seek medical advice promptly. Keep in touch with his healthcare provider, especially regarding his platelet levels and overall progression of symptoms, as these are important indicators of how well he’s managing with dengue.
