black dag on face - #18818
I am freaking out because I just found this weird black dag on my face. Like, seriously, it just showed up overnight! I can't even remember when I noticed it, but I think it's been there about a week. At first, I thought maybe it was a pimple or something, but it just keeps getting bigger, and now it's this dark, raised bump. The black dag on my face is really concerning, especially since I never had anything like this before. I took a picture and it kinda looks like it could be a mole, but I can’t shake off the feeling that it's something more serious. I tried to look it up online, and the results freaked me out more than helped! I mean, there’s all this talk about skin cancer and weird skin conditions. I’ve got no pain or itching, but I’m still freaking out whenever I see it in the mirror. Do you all think it could be just a benign growth, or should I be worried about this black dag on my face? Should I wait to see if it goes away, or is this something that needs to be checked out right away?

Doctors' responses
Finding a new skin growth can definitely be unsettling, especially if it seems to come out of nowhere and changes rapidly. You’ve described a dark, raised bump, which sounds like it warrants closer attention. Given that it’s new, growing, and dark, those are indeed characteristics that require a professional evaluation to rule out anything serious like skin cancer, including melanoma. While it could be a benign growth such as a seborrheic keratosis or mole, the only way to be sure is to have it examined by a healthcare provider, preferably a dermatologist. They can perform a thorough skin examination, and if necessary, consider a biopsy to determine the nature of the growth. It’s good to note that not all dark or new spots are dangerous, but certain features can make them more concerning such as asymmetry, uneven borders, multiple colors, diameter larger than 6mm, and any evolving or changing aspect. You’ve described its recent appearance and change, which makes it important to address with a specialist sooner rather than later. Self-care or waiting it out is not advisable in this scenario because early diagnosis and treatment can greatly impact outcomes when it comes to skin abnormalities. So I recommend scheduling an appointment with a dermatologist as soon as you can for a professional assessment. Meanwhile, try not to further stress yourself with internet searches, as they can often lead to worst-case scenario conclusions that might not apply to your specific situation. Getting an expert opinion will give you the clarity and peace of mind you need.
