dengue treatment fruits - #18972

Ananya

I am really worried about my brother. A few days ago he started having fever, headaches, and some really bad joint pain. We took him to the doctor, and they said it could be dengue. Since then, he’s been super fatigued, and his platelets are lower than normal!! I heard that dengue treatment fruits can help with recovery but I’m not exactly sure which ones are best. He’s been eating a lot of papaya, someone said that’s good for boosting platelets, but are there other dengue treatment fruits we should be looking at?? I mean, he’s also been super picky and doesn’t really like a ton of fruits, just mostly bananas and apples. Ugh, frustrating!! I really just want him to get better and I wonder if these dengue treatment fruits can really make a difference in his recovery. I read online about guava and how it has benefits, but can’t recall which fruits are actually effective for dengue. Can someone share some proven dengue treatment fruits that he might actually eat, or should I just focus on making him drink a lot of fluids?? I appreciate all the help!

When dealing with dengue, the primary focus should be maintaining hydration and monitoring any severe symptoms that warranting medical attention. While fruits can play a supportive role in the overall recovery process, they won’t substitute for medical treatment. Papaya leaf extract is often mentioned for its potential to help increase platelet counts, although definitive research on this is limited and results can vary. Supplemntal use should be discussed with his healthcare provider before trying any unconventional remedy. Guavas, rich in Vitamin C, may support the immune system and bananas are excellent for providing energy and electrolytes, which are often lost during fever. Apples can be helpful as they are gentle on the stomach and provide some hydration alongside fiber.

That said, the most critical aspect is ensuring he’s well-hydrated, keeping in mind frequent sips of water, oral hydration salts, or clear fluids like broth and fruit juices without added sugar. It’s also important to keep an eye on any warning signs like severe abdominal pain, vomiting, bleeding gums, or fatigue, as these may signal a need for urgent medical evaluation. Since platelets can drop during a dengue infection, keeping his doctor informed on any new symptoms is crucial to managing potential complications. In terms of diet, alongside the fruits he likes, encourage him to consume other gentle and nutritious foods like plain rice, boiled vegetables, and lean protein to support his recovery.
