how to stop a growing pimple - #18989
I am really struggling right now with this pimple that just keeps growing, like, really? Why does this happen? It started a few days ago, just a small red bump, and now? It's like I’ve got a mountainous pimple on my face. I tried using some over-the-counter creams that usually work, but nothing seems to help. I've been washing my face religiously, and washing my pillow cases like, twice a week now, but that growing pimple just won’t quit! it feels super tender and even hurts a bit when I touch it. Should I be doing something different? I read a bit about how to stop a growing pimple, like applying ice or maybe using some kind of tea tree oil, but is that really effective? I've honestly considered just popping it, but I know that's probably a terrible idea and might even make it worse. Can anyone share what actually works to stop a growing pimple? Or is there something I shouldn’t do? I’m feeling kinda hopeless at this point, any advice would really help! Thanks a bunch!

When a pimple is growing and painful, it’s often due to inflammation under the skin caused by bacteria and blocked pores. Continuing to wash your face regularly is a good practice, but be careful not to overdo it as this can irritate your skin more. Avoid popping it, as this can lead to scarring or infections. Instead, focus on reducing swelling and promoting healing. Ice can help reduce swelling; wrap some in a clean cloth and apply to the area for a few minutes several times a day.
Consider using a topical treatment containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid if you haven’t already, these can help to clear blocked pores. Apply it sparingly directly to the pimple. Tea tree oil might have some benefit due to its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Use it diluted to avoid skin irritation, about a 5% solution is typically recommended, applied once or twice daily with a clean cotton swab.
Avoid touching your face unnecessarily and ensure to use non-comedogenic products. Be cautious of any other products, like makeup, which might exacerbate your condition. Check the expiration of products, as expired products can further irritate the skin. If the pimple continues to enlarge or becomes much more painful, it might be an indication of a deeper skin infection like a cyst or abscess, in which case seeing a healthcare provider for potential prescription treatment or drainage would be advisable. They can assess whether you need a stronger medication or a specific intervention.
