can we apply bleach after facial - #19257

Diya

I am really confused about something and need to know, can we apply bleach after facial treatments? Last week, I decided to pamper myself and got a facial done. My skin feels fresh but there are some dark spots that have been bugging me for ages. I was thinking about using a bleach cream to lighten them, but I can't help thinking — can we apply bleach after facial? I've seen mixed opinions online, and a friend told me I should wait a few days. But like, I don't even know how many days are safe. Also, I've had a little redness since the facial, so I'm wondering if using bleach will make it worse or if it's fine. Do dermatologists recommend this combo? I'm kinda nervous about irritating my skin, especially right after I just treated it. And if it's a bad idea to do this, how long should I really wait? I’m just worried I might mess up my skin even more 'cause I feel like it's finally looking decent! So yeah, can we apply bleach after facial or should I hold off for a while? Any thoughts would be super helpful!

Doctors' responses

Using bleach on your skin shortly after a facial is generally not recommended, particularly if you’ve noticed any redness or sensitivity post-treatment. Facials often involve exfoliation, which can leave the skin more sensitive and prone to irritation. Applying a bleach cream too soon after a facial could exacerbate any existing sensitivity, causing further redness, irritation, or even burning sensations. In terms of timing, it’s typically advisable to wait at least 3-5 days following a facial before using any bleaching products, but this can vary based on your individual skin type and the specific facial treatment you received. If your skin is still showing signs of redness or feels sensitized, it might be better to hold off until these symptoms completely resolve. Additionally, not all bleach products are created equal, and some can be quite harsh on the skin, especially when it’s freshly treated. Make sure to do a patch test on a small area of your skin to check for any adverse reactions if you decide to use a bleaching agent later on. Also, it might be worthwhile to consider alternative spot treatments or serums specially designed for dark spots, as these could be gentler on your skin. Dermatologists often recommend treatments with ingredients such as vitamin C, niacinamide, or retinoids for hyperpigmentation, and these could be a safer bet post-facial. If persistent dark spots are a concern, consulting with a dermatologist for tailored advice might offer a more targeted and effective strategy for lightening them without risking your skin’s health. Overall, while it can be tempting to use bleach to address pigmentation quickly, proceeding with care and patience typically yields better results without compromising your skin barrier.
