does multani mitti remove acne scars - #23162

Advait

I am really struggling with my skin lately and I've heard that multani mitti can help with acne scars, but I don’t know how true it is. My acne was kinda bad during high school and now that I’m in college, I’ve got all these annoying scars left behind and it really messes with my confidence! A friend told me about this multani mitti stuff and a few YouTube videos say it works wonders for, like, clearing up scars and making my skin look fresh again. I tried it once, just mixed with water, and it felt nice but I honestly can’t tell if it did anything... does multani mitti remove acne scars or is it all just hype? I also have oily skin, and I'm worried maybe it won't work as well for me. How often do people use it? Should I be mixing it with other things, like rose water or lemon juice, or something? I just want to know if it actually works for others and if there's, like, a best way to use it. Really need something because I can't keep dealing with this!

Multani mitti, also known as Fuller’s Earth, is a popular traditional remedy often used in skincare, particularly in certain parts of the world. It’s believed to absorb excess oil, unclog pores, and lighten pigmentation over time due to its clay-like properties. However, in terms of evidence-based dermatology, there’s limited scientific research to fully substantiate its effectiveness specifically for reducing acne scars. Though it can potentially help improve skin texture slightly, it may not effectively remove deep or pronounced acne scars. It’s more likely to benefit your skin by improving overall texture and controlling oiliness due to its absorbent quality.

For oily skin, using multani mitti may indeed help control the shine and make your skin feel fresher. It’s typically recommended to mix it with other ingredients to enhance its effects. For example, combining it with rose water can be soothing and add hydration without making your skin oily, while lemon juice might help with brightening, but its acidic nature could potentially irritate sensitive or broken skin. Therefore, use lemon cautiously and perhaps do a patch test first. A balanced routine would be using multani mitti once or twice a week; overuse might lead to dryness or irritation.

For significant acne scars, you might want to look at more evidence-based treatments such as chemical peels, retinoids, or even consulting a dermatologist for options like laser therapy or microneedling, which have shown better results in scar reduction. Keep in mind that these treatments come with their own pros and cons, and it’s worth discussing with a healthcare professional to tailor an approach that suits your skin best. If any treatment causes irritation or isn’t working after a period of use, it’s important to consult a doctor before continuing with self-treatment.
