is bhringraj oil good for hair - #23246

Meera

I am starting to really worry about my hair. Last year, I noticed it thinning a lot, and it kind of freaked me out. Like, I have tried a whole bunch of different shampoos and treatments, but nothing seems to be workin. Someone suggested I look into bhringraj oil, saying it might help with hair growth and maybe even make it healthier? But I don’t know much about it. Is bhringraj oil good for hair or is it just another trend that’s not worth my time? I did try a few natural oils before, but they left my hair super greasy for days! We did some tests at the derm's office, and all they found were a few vitamin deficiencies, which I’m working to fix now. But I keep hearing stories about bhringraj oil really helping some people, boosting growth and stopping hair fall. I mean, is bhringraj oil good for hair like people say, or could it maybe, like, make things worse? Should I be putting it straight on my scalp or mixing it with something else? Really hoping someone can give me some real advice since I’m getting kinda anxious about this whole hair situation.

Doctors' responses

Bhringraj oil has been used in traditional medicine, particularly in Ayurvedic practices, and is believed by some to promote hair growth and improve hair health. There is limited scientific evidence to support these claims, but some people do report positive results with its use. The oil is said to potentially help by improving blood circulation to the scalp, which can nourish hair follicles, promote healthier hair growth, and possibly reduce hair loss. It’s important to note, however, that individual results can vary, and what works for one person might not necessarily work for another. Since you’ve already tried various treatments without success and have been diagnosed with a few vitamin deficiencies, it’s a good step to address these deficiencies first as they could be contributing to your hair thinning issue. As for using bhringraj oil, you can apply it directly to your scalp, but do so in moderation to avoid an excessively greasy residue—you might try leaving it on for a few hours before shampooing. Mixing it with other carrier oils like coconut or almond oil can sometimes help to mitigate any excessive greasiness and add additional benefits. If you experience any irritation or worsening of symptoms, you should discontinue use. Keep in mind that while bhringraj oil could be a useful addition to your hair care routine, maintaining a balanced diet, minimizing stress, and continuing any treatments recommended by your dermatologist are also key components to addressing hair thinning. If anxiety about your hair is affecting your daily life, it could also be helpful to discuss this with your healthcare provider to ensure you’re on the right track and address any underlying concerns comprehensively.
