how does shilajit taste - #23696

Ayush

I am trying to figure out how does shilajit taste because I've heard so much about its health benefits, but honestly, the idea of taking something that could taste bad is really making me hesitate! A friend recommended it a few weeks ago, and she swears by it for energy and stamina. So I decided to give it a go, right? I ordered some online and it arrived yesterday. I was pretty excited, but when I opened the container that stuff smells pretty strong, not like anything I've had before, and yeah, that got me kinda worried? I mean, what if it’s super bitter or just gross? I read somewhere that how does shilajit taste can vary based on the source, and that just adds to my confusion! I tried a little bit on a spoon, and I guess it wasn’t the worst thing ever, but definetly earthy and kinda… sticky? Like, if you’ve ever eaten a really strong herbal tea, that sort of vibe? But is it really supposed to taste like that? Should I mix it with something else to make it easier to take? I want to get the benefits, but I don't want each dose to feel like a chore! Anyone else had a weird experience figuring out how does shilajit taste?

Doctors' responses

Shilajit is indeed known for its intense taste and smell, often described as earthy, bitter, or smoky. Its taste can vary based on its origin and how it’s processed, so your impression of it being similar to strong herbal tea isn’t unusual. Many find it quite potent and not particularly pleasant, which is why it’s common to mix it with other substances to make consumption more palatable. You can try dissolving shilajit in warm water or milk, which can help mask its natural flavor. Adding a sweetener like honey or maple syrup can also counterbalance its bitterness. Some people add it to smoothies, teas, or other beverages to blend the taste with more familiar flavors.

While these methods can make taking shilajit more enjoyable, it’s also important to consider the safety and necessity of using it. Ensure your shilajit source is reputable, as some contamination risks exist with inferior-quality products. Although shilajit’s touted benefits like increased energy and stamina seem compelling, this supplement should be seen as an adjunct, not a replacement for other healthy lifestyle choices. Also, balance your expectations with evidence. Some clinical research supports several anecdotal benefits of shilajit, but more conclusive studies are needed, especially regarding its long-term effects and interaction with other medications or conditions. If you have any health concerns or are taking regular medication, consult a healthcare professional before continuing use.
