why my hair is falling from roots - #23980

Arnav

I am really worried about my hair lately, like it’s just falling from roots way more than I expected. I mean, I've always had thick hair, but now I'm noticing huge clumps fall out every time I comb or wash it! It's not just a few strands here and there, it feels like my hair is falling from roots and it's driving me crazy. I've tried different shampoos and even some home remedies but nothing seems to work. I went to my doc and they said maybe it’s stress or hormonal changes, but honestly, I don’t know. I’m not sure if that’s the only reason why my hair is falling from roots or if something else is going on. I did some blood tests and everything came back normal, which makes me even more puzzled. Has anyone else experienced why my hair is falling from roots? Like, did you find a good solution or something that really helped? I’m worried about losing more hair. Is there anything I should be doing differently? I heard vitamins might help but still confused about what to take. Need some thoughts from you all!

Doctors' responses

When hair falls out from the roots in clumps, it’s understandable to feel concerned. Since your blood tests came back normal, there are still several potential causes to consider. Conditions like telogen effluvium, which is often triggered by stress, hormonal changes, or even certain medications, can lead to temporary hair shedding. While stress is a common factor, other elements such as nutrient deficiencies (iron, vitamin D, or biotin), thyroid issues, or even excessive styling damage could contribute to the issue. Checking your diet to ensure it’s balanced and nutrient-rich can be an initial step. Consuming sufficient protein, green leafy vegetables, and avoiding overly processed foods might support hair health. If you’re curious about vitamins, consider a multivitamin tailored for hair health, potentially containing biotin, zinc, and iron—after seeking advice from a healthcare provider, of course, to avoid unnecessary supplementation.

Addressing hair care habits is crucial. Avoid harsh hairstyles that tug at the roots, reduce the use of heat styling tools, and choose a gentle shampoo and conditioner appropriate for your hair type. Scalp exercises and massages may promote blood circulation, possibly aiding hair growth. If the issue persists or worsens, considering consulting a dermatologist specializing in hair loss could provide additional insights and potential treatment strategies, like minoxidil or platelet-rich plasma therapy, though these should be discussed thoroughly to weigh the pros and cons. Overall, while the situation can be distressing, proper care and monitoring may help mitigate the shedding until it stabilizes, given that hair health often requires multifaceted approaches and patience. If any sudden, significant changes in your health are noticed, or if you feel an alarming scalp condition, it’s wise to seek a professional opinion to rule out other underlying issues.
