can i apply multani mitti overnight - #24625

Advait

I am starting to wonder about this whole skincare routine, especially since I read about multani mitti and its benefits. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and was thinking, can I apply multani mitti overnight? My skin gets super oily, especially in the summer, and this clay really seems to help with that. Last week, I tried leaving it on for a couple of hours, and it felt great! But then I thought maybe I should just go for the gold and leave it on while I sleep? But I’m worried about breakouts or, like, irritation. I’ve seen some people on forums say they apply multani mitti overnight and wake up with their skin glowing, but what if it clogs my pores or dries me out too much? I don’t want to wreck my face, you know? Yeah, I’ve got some pimples still, and I really hope multani mitti is a solid solution. Has anyone tried applying multani mitti overnight and had a good experience? Or should I stick to shorter intervals? Just need to figure this out!

Applying multani mitti, or Fuller’s Earth, overnight isn’t typically recommended. Though it can be great for absorbing excess oil and potential improving the appearance of pores, leaving it on for too long can cause unwanted effects. Fuller’s Earth is an absorbent clay that can draw impurities and oils from your skin, which sounds ideal for oiliness, but it also can lead to excessive dryness and irritation if left on too long. Prolonged contact could potentially disrupt your skin barrier function—especially if you have sensitive skin—which can exacerbate any existing issues, like breakouts or redness.

Instead, consider using it as a mask for a more controlled period, roughly 10 to 15 minutes is usually adequate for most people. If you still feel like exploring how it affects your skin’s oiliness, you might want to gradually increase the duration of your mask but stay cautious and not go beyond an hour. This should help you monitor any drying effects or irritation closely. Every skin type is different, so it’s wise to patch-test any change in routine on a small area first. Make sure to follow up with a moisturizer that suits your skin type to rehydrate the skin surface without clogging your pores. If you’re struggling with acne or persistent oiliness, a consultation with a dermatologist could provide more personalized advice or alternative treatments that may be more gentle and effective.
