does masturbation decrease height - #25009

Divya

I am really worried about something weird that I've been hearing and I don't know who to ask! So, I'm a 17-year-old male and I heard from a friend that does masturbation decrease height. Like, I've always been a bit insecure about my height since I feel kinda short compared to my friends. I’m about 5'6", and sometimes I feel like it holds me back in sports or even just social situations. My friend was saying that he read online that does masturbation decrease height, and now I can't stop thinking about it. I mean, I've been pretty active and tried to eat well, plus the doctor said I’m still growing, but what if this is true? I really don’t wanna accidentally stunt my growth or something. Are there any studies or facts that really prove that does masturbation decrease height? I keep googling it and all I find are mixed answers. Like, some people say it does, and others say it doesn't affect your growth at all! I’d really love to hear from doctors so I can finally know the truth and stop stressing about it. Can anyone help me out here?

Doctors' responses

There is no scientific evidence to support the idea that masturbation decreases height. Human growth is primarily determined by genetic factors, nutrition, and overall health. Masturbation is a natural and common activity, especially during adolescence, and it does not impact your growth or height. Concerns about height are very normal, but it’s important to understand that most males continue to grow until their late teens, and in some cases, even into their early twenties. The hormones responsible for growth, primarily growth hormone and testosterone, are not negatively affected by masturbation. In fact, these hormones have a much more significant relationship with factors like diet, sleep, and overall health. To focus on healthy growth, you should ensure you’re eating a balanced diet rich in essential nutrients like proteins, vitamins, and minerals, engage in regular physical activity, and get sufficient sleep each night, typically around 8-9 hours for teenagers. Staying hydrated and managing stress levels can also positively impact your overall health and development. If you’re still concerned about growth or any other health-related questions, it’s a good idea to discuss them with a healthcare provider during your next visit, who can offer personalized advice tailored to your specific situation. Remember, worrying excessively about these rumors can be distressing, so it’s good to rely on verified medical information and professional guidance.
