does hyperthyroidism cause weight gain - #26118
I am really confused about something and I hope you all can help me out. For the last couple of months, I've been feeling super off. Like, I know hyperthyroidism is often linked to losing weight, but I swear I’ve been gaining weight! It's just strange, right? I used to be pretty active, but now I feel tired all the time, and my skin's a bit weird too. My doc said he suspects hyperthyroidism based on my symptoms—like palpitations and sweating—and I went for blood tests that confirmed high thyroid hormone levels. But what bothers me is, does hyperthyroidism cause weight gain or can it make you gain weight for some weird reason? I hear stories of people losing weight with this condition, so it’s kinda freaking me out that I’m gaining instead! I had my appetite change too, sometimes I’m starving and then I can't eat at all because I feel nauseous. Is this normal? Should I be worried? I mean, if hyperthyroidism usually means weight loss, how can I be gaining weight? I’m just trying to make sense of all this! Any thoughts? Thanks!
