A bruise developing on your left shoulder after sleeping can be a bit puzzling, especially if there’s no memory of injury or fall. Sometimes bruising can occur from prolonged pressure, and it may not require a severe impact to appear as a bruise, particularly if you slept in an unusual position or there’s repeated friction. People sometimes have fragile skin or capillaries that might lead to easier bruising, which could be exacerbated by certain medications like aspirin or blood thinners, or underlying medical conditions that affect clotting or blood vessel strength. However, if the bruise feels different from a typical one—like having a rough or powdered texture on the skin—that could indicate potential skin irritation or other dermatological issues rather than a simple bruise. It is important to monitor any additional symptoms that may accompany this, such as swelling, temperature changes in the area, or any other unusual skin changes, which could suggest something more than just bruising. If the bruise becomes painful, grows in size, or you notice new symptoms like significant warmth, redness, or if you have unexplained extensive bruising elsewhere, it’s crucial to seek a medical evaluation to rule out more serious conditions. A healthcare provider could decide to perform a blood test or other diagnostic evaluations to ensure everything is functioning properly in terms of blood coagulation and vascular integrity. Meanwhile, avoid applying pressure on the affected area, manage any pain with over-the-counter analgesics if necessary, and keep an eye out for any unusual changes in your skin condition.

Hello Yes, it is still very likely that the bruise on your left shoulder came from pressure while sleeping on that side, even if you did not fall on that shoulder. Lying on one area for several hours can compress small blood vessels under the skin and cause a dark bruise that may feel slightly rough or firm when touched. This type of bruise often appears the next day and gradually fades over 1–2 weeks. The “powdered” or rough feeling you noticed can happen as the trapped blood under the skin starts to break down during healing.
Regarding the monkey incident, the risk of Rabies depends only on whether there was a bite, scratch, or saliva contact with broken skin. If the monkey never touched your skin and there was no wound, then rabies risk is essentially zero. If there is any doubt about unnoticed contact, doctors may still consider the Rabies vaccine as a precaution, because it is very safe and effective when given after exposure.
For the bruise itself, simple care is usually enough. Warm compresses can help it resolve faster, and you can use Paracetamol if there is mild pain or fever. The bruise should slowly change color and become lighter over the next several days.
If your fever continues beyond a couple of days, the bruise becomes larger, very painful, swollen, or you notice redness or warmth, then you should get examined in person, especially since you also had a leg fracture from the fall.
