Is it possible to reduce ribs angle with exercises without surgery

Aisha

I am wondering if is it possible to reduce ribs angle with exercises without surgery because I’ve been dealing with some weird rib pain lately. A couple of weeks ago, I was lifting weights and felt a sharp pain in my side, and I’ve noticed since then that my ribs on the left side seem to be protruding more than before. It’s like my whole chest looks kinda weird because of this angle, like, maybe it’s just me overthinking it? I’ve tried to look up if is it possible to reduce ribs angle with exercises without surgery — I mean, that would be fantastic if it works! I’ve seen some YouTube videos claiming certain stretches or workouts could help, but honestly, I don’t know what to believe. Doctors always seem to say exercise is good for everything, but I've never had anything like this. Has anyone else had that question? Is it possible to reduce ribs angle with exercises without surgery? Or should I just prepare myself for the fact that this might be a long-term issue? I really don’t wanna go through surgery, so if there’s any way I can improve things with just the right exercises, that’d be awesome. Any advice or personal experiences would be super helpful!

Reducing the angle of your ribs through exercises alone, without surgery, generally isn’t feasible if there’s an underlying structural reason for the protrusion. The rib cage shape can be due to a variety of factors like genetic predispositions, past trauma, or muscular imbalances. However, exercises can certainly aid in alleviating any muscular tension or strengthening the surrounding area, which might indirectly help with discomfort and functional improvement the pain you’re experiencing.

Focused exercises can enhance posture and muscular support around the thoracic region, potentially masking minor asymmetries in the ribcage to some extent. Core-strengthening exercises, such as planks or pelvic tilts, could help provide stable support to your overall posture which might affect how the ribs protrude. Additionally, engaging in flexibility exercises for the upper back and breathing exercises might help reduce discomfort over time, as they improve mobility and rib mobility.

It’s crucial, nonetheless, to first determine the exact cause of the rib protrusion and related pain. Considering you’ve experienced sharp pain following weightlifting, it’d be wise to consult with a healthcare provider like a physiotherapist or orthopedist before attempting any specific exercises. They can offer personalized advice and potentially recommend imaging or further diagnostics if there’s concern about a rib fracture or other structural issues. This way, you’re ensuring there’s no need for immediate medical intervention; it’s always best not to delay seeking medical advice if sharp pain persists or if the condition worsens.

In summary, while exercises won’t directly change the rib angle, targeted stretches and strengthening could improve your discomfort and enhance posture, which may make the rib protrusion less prominent. Just ensure to get evaluated to rule out severe underlying conditions first.
