What to do if my blood sugar is high and I'm feeling dizzy after stopping Glucophage XR?

Client_c06b35

I used to have insulin resistance and was taking Glucophage XR 1000 mg (two tablets a day). Once my HOMA-IR reached 1.7, I stopped the medication for two weeks. For the past four days following that two-week break, my blood pressure has been low, and my blood sugar has been very high—my fasting blood sugar registered at 331 mg/dL. I am also feeling extremely dizzy, and the dizziness only goes away temporarily."

Discontinuing Glucophage XR (metformin) and then experiencing high blood sugar levels is a pretty clear sign that your body may still need some support in managing glucose effectively. A fasting blood sugar of 331 mg/dL is definitely high, and alongside symptoms like dizziness, it’s important to take action. First off, you should reach out to your healthcare provider or endocrinologist right away. They need to reassess your treatment plan—it’s possible you’ll need to restart metformin or consider other medication options. The elevated blood sugar could be causing the dizziness due to its effect on your body’s overall balance; persistently high blood sugar can also lead to dehydration, affecting your blood pressure and making you feel dizzy. You should focus on staying well hydrated, aiming for water or other low-sugar options. While you’re waiting to see your doctor, monitor your blood sugar levels closely, ideally keeping a log with dates and times, so your provider has detailed information to go on. Regarding your dietary intake, stick to meals that have a low glycemic index to prevent further spikes; avoid high-carb, high-sugar foods for now. If you notice persistent dizziness, faintness, or if any other unusual symptoms occur, consider it a signal to seek immediate medical attention, as these can sometimes lead to more serious issues if not addressed right away. Regular follow-up appointments to adjust your treatment and reassess your blood sugar targets might be necessary once things stabilize. It’s crucial not to take matters into your own hands without professional advice, especially with something as sensitive as blood sugar levels.
