Doctors' responses

When dealing with high restrictive flow in the vertebral arteries resulting in symptoms like vertigo and weakness, treatment often depends on the severity of the condition and the underlying cause. It’s crucial to ensure that there’s no risk of a transient ischemic attack (TIA) or stroke, so further evaluation by a vascular specialist or neurologist might be necessary. They may recommend additional imaging tests like MRI or CT angiography to thoroughly assess the condition of your vertebral and carotid arteries. Medications might be considered to address risk factors contributing to reduced blood flow, such as antihypertensives, statins for cholesterol management, or antiplatelet agents like aspirin if there’s an increased risk of stroke. These can help with improving the overall blood flow and reducing future risk. Lifestyle modifications like quitting smoking, maintaining a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and omega-3 fatty acids, regular physical activity, and controlling conditions like hypertension and diabetes also play a critical role in management. In some cases, if blood flow restriction is severe and symptoms persist, surgical interventions like angioplasty with stenting may be considered. It’s essential to have a detailed discussion with your healthcare provider to tailor the treatment to your specific needs, considering any other health conditions you might have. Ensure that you have close follow-up to monitor symptoms and adjust treatment as needed.
