Based on your description, it sounds like you might be experiencing a fungal infection, possibly athlete’s foot or tinea manuum, which can affect both the feet and hands. Fungal infections are common and arise in moist, warm environments. To address the itching and infection, antifungal treatments can be effective. For topical management, you could use an over-the-counter antifungal cream or ointment with active ingredients like clotrimazole or terbinafine, applied twice daily to the affected areas. It’s crucial to continue using the treatment even after your symptoms stop to ensure complete eradication of the fungus—usually for 2-4 weeks total. In addition, try to keep those areas as dry as possible, using absorbent powders can help reduce moisture, especially between toes and fingers. Make sure you’re regularly changing socks and gloves and consider wearing breathable fabrics to lessen sweating. Avoid wearing the same footwear frequently to allow them to dry and air out, reducing moisture accumulation. Ensure good hand hygiene, use soap and water frequently, and dry your skin thoroughly. If you haven’t seen improvement after two weeks, or if symptoms worsen, it would be prudent to consult a healthcare provider, as they might prescribe oral antifungals, especially if the infection is spreading or persists. Monitor for signs of bacterial infection, like increased redness, swelling, or drainage, as those would need immediate attention. Remember too, refrain from scratching to avoid secondary infection and accelerate healing.
