if we apply aloe vera on face daily - #15402
I am really curious about something. I've been using aloe vera on my face daily for a few weeks now, and I'm not sure if I'm doing the right thing! A friend of mine swears by it, and she’s always saying how great it is for the skin, but I heard some mixed reviews online. I’ve been dealing with some dry patches and occasional breakouts, and I thought maybe applying aloe vera on my face daily would help. At first, it felt soothing, and my skin looked kinda glowy, which is amazing! But then I started noticing a few red spots, and now I’m freaking out a little bit. I thought aloe vera is supposed to be all soothing, right? Like, if we apply aloe vera on face daily, shouldn’t it help with hydration and clear up things? Or am I just interpreting things completely wrong? I’m also not sure if I should use pure aloe, gel from the store, or mix it with something. And how long should I really keep it on my face? Do you guys think if we apply aloe vera on face daily that it could be harmful, or is it just me having a weird reaction? Any advice would be super helpful!

Doctors’ responses
Applying aloe vera on your face daily can generally be beneficial for skin hydration and soothing due to its anti-inflammatory properties and ability to bind moisture, which can help with dry patches. However, reactions to aloe vera can vary from person to person. The red spots you’re noticing might be a sign of irritation or sensitivity, which can occur even with natural products like aloe. Sometimes, if you’re using a store-bought gel, additives or preservatives in the product could be causing the irritation rather than aloe itself. It’s advisable to patch test any product (including aloe vera) before applying it to your entire face to rule out any sensitiveness or allergies. If you’re using pure aloe vera from the plant, ensure it’s thoroughly cleaned and the yellow “latex” part is completely removed as it can be irritating. If you’re using a gel, check the ingredient list for any potential irritants. Concerning the duration, usually keeping aloe vera on your face for about 10 to 15 minutes is enough then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Leaving it on for too long could potentially lead to irritation, especially if your skin is sensitive. While aloe vera is generally safe for many people, not everyone’s skin will respond the same way. If redness persists, or if you develop itching, swelling, or other symptoms, you might want to pause using it and consult with a dermatologist. They can help determine whether you have a sensitivity to aloe vera or if another underlying cause is leading to your symptoms.
