dengue home remedy - #17753

Kimaya

I am really worried about my brother who just got diagnosed with dengue. He’s been feeling super weak, and its like he can't keep anything down. The doctors said it's mild, but I can't shake this feeling that we need to do more at home. I heard about a dengue home remedy that involves papaya leaf juice, and I read online that it can help boost platelet counts? But then again, some sites say there's no real evidence to back this up. My mom is all about natural treatments, but I keep wondering if a dengue home remedy is actually good to try or if we should stick to just what the doctors say. Theres also this herbal tea I found that's supposed to help with hydration – should I make him drink that too? I really wanna help him feel better but I don't wanna mess things up. Are there any other dengue home remedies that are actually effective? Like, has anyone else tried anything that worked? I guess I just feel overwhelmed with all the info out there and don’t know what’s legit also, how long does it really take to recover from dengue? Should we be looking out for, like, any specific symptoms that might mean we need to go back to the hospital? I just want him to be okay.

Doctors' responses

When it comes to managing dengue fever at home, there are a few key points to keep in mind, especially since he’s already under medical care for a mild case. Firstly, hydration is crucial. Encourage him to drink plenty of fluids, such as water, oral rehydration solutions, or broths. These help keep his fluid levels up because dengue can cause dehydration due to fever and vomiting. Herbal teas can also be a hydrating option, but ensure they’re caffeine-free, as caffeine might be too harsh on his system right now. As for the papaya leaf juice, it’s often mentioned in relation to increasing platelet counts, but there isn’t conclusive evidence supporting its effectiveness in scientific studies. If your family is considering trying it, it’s always a good idea to discuss this with his doctor to make sure it won’t interfere with his treatment. Always exercise caution with home remedies, especially when they’re not backed by strong evidence. Regarding other specific symptoms, watch for signs that could indicate a more severe form of dengue, such as severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, bleeding gums or nose, fatigue, and difficulty breathing. If any of these symptoms appear, it’s crucial to seek immediate medical attention, as they may signify a progression to dengue hemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome. Recovery time from dengue varies; generally, it can take up to two weeks or a bit longer for full recovery. Stay in touch with his healthcare provider for specific advice, as they understand his condition best. Keep monitoring his progress, and make sure he rests well to support his recovery. It’s okay to feel a bit overwhelmed, but focusing on proven supportive care at home while keeping a close eye on the warning signs will help him recover safely.
