fade out night cream - #21617

Fatima

I am a bit confused about this fade out night cream I just started using. A week ago, I noticed my skin was looking a bit dull and uneven, so I thought I'd try something different after reading some reviews. I picked up this fade out night cream because they said it helps with dark spots and brightens your skin while you sleep. I've been applying it at night religiously, but I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. My skin felt a little tingly at first, which I thought was normal, but now I'm worried maybe that's not a good sign? also, is there a right way to apply this fade out night cream? Like, should I be using it after my serum or right after cleansing? I'm also kinda anxious because I've heard mixed things about fade out night creams in general. Should I give it more time to work? I thought I'd see some changes by now, and I'm maybe just impatient? I want my skin to look amazing like those influencers. Any thoughts or tips would be super helpful!! Are there other products that work better with fade out night cream too?

Doctors' responses

Let’s start with the tingling sensation you mentioned when using the fade out night cream. Mild tingling often happens when you first begin using a product with active ingredients like retinol or exfoliating acids, which are common in brightening creams. However, if the tingling turns into irritation, redness, or a burning sensation, it might mean your skin is reacting more than it should. It’s crucial to listen to your skin; in such cases, consider pausing its use and consulting with a dermatologist, especially if the reaction concerns you. Regarding application, night creams should generally be applied after cleansing, post-serum if you’re using one. The correct order would be: cleanse, tone (if you use a toner), serum, and then apply a pea-sized amount of the night cream evenly over your face. Avoid using other active products that could compound irritation like acids or retinoids, unless specifically advised by a skincare professional. These can sometimes clash or overly sensitize your skin.

As for whether to continue with it or not, one week is a pretty short window to judge effectiveness. Skin care products, particularly those addressing issues like pigmentation or dullness, can take several weeks to show notable results. So, if your skin tolerates the cream well, consider continuing for at least 4-6 weeks to give it a fair chance. Meanwhile, keep your skin moisturized with a gentle non-active moisturizer to help maintain the skin barrier, reducing potential irritation. In addition, daily use of a broad-spectrum sunscreen is crucial to protect your skin from UV-related pigmentation, which helps any brightening effort. If you’re looking for additional products to use alongside, look for hydrating serums with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, which can complement the work of your night cream without interfering with its activity. Finally, patience and consistency are key to seeing benefits from skincare products— everyone’s skin responds differently, so what works and how quickly can vary significantly person-to-person.
