does masturbation affect testosterone - #23262

Zoya

I am really confused and kinda worried about something. For a while now, I've been hearing mixed opinions about this whole idea of whether or not masturbation affects testosterone levels. Like, I read this article that said it has no impact at all, while others claim it actually lowers testosterone. I mean, I’ve been doing it pretty regularly, maybe too regularly, and now I’m wondering if that’s bad for my hormones or something? A few weeks back, I noticed I was feeling more tired than usual and had some mood swings, which got me thinking—could masturbation affect testosterone in that regard? I don’t have a lot of info on what’s normal versus abnormal levels for someone my age, and I feel like I should know if my habits are impacting my health. I just want to be sure I'm not messing myself up in the long run. I know everyone’s different, but does masturbation affect testosterone enough to be a concern? Like, should I cut back or something? There's just so much conflicting info out there and I’m really trying to figure it out before it gets worse or something. Any insight would be super helpful!

It’s understandable to feel confused with all the conflicting information floating around. In general, masturbation has not been shown to cause significant long-term changes in testosterone levels in medical research. While some studies suggest a temporary spike in testosterone after abstaining from ejaculation for a few days, there’s no conclusive evidence that regular masturbation causes lasting decreases in testosterone levels. Your feelings of tiredness and mood swings are unlikely to be linked directly to masturbation. These symptoms could have multiple causes, including stress, lack of sleep, or even dietary habits. If you’re concerned about whether your hormone levels are normal, it’s a good idea to consult with a healthcare provider who can assess your symptoms in a broader context. They might recommend measuring hormone levels if necessary. When it comes to what’s normal regarding testosterone, typical levels can vary widely depending on age, lifestyle, and even individual biology. So, what’s normal for one person might not be for another. If you’re experiencing symptoms that are impacting your daily life, like severe mood swings, fatigue, or other health issues, reaching out for a professional evaluation would be a prudent step. Generally speaking, masturbation is a normal and common part of human sexuality, and there’s no medical guideline suggesting that cutting back is necessary solely for health reasons unless it’s interfering with your daily activities. It’s wise to focus on overall lifestyle factors—like nutrition, exercise, sleep patterns, and stress management—which are more likely to have notable effects on your hormone health and wellbeing.
