how to avoid dengue mosquito

Shivansh

I am super worried about this dengue fever thing that's been going around lately. A couple weeks ago, my friend got really sick and found out it was from dengue, and it freaked me out! I’ve been hearing so much about how serious it can be, and now with all these mosquitoes buzzing around my area, I just don't know how to avoid dengue mosquitoes. I mean, I’ve tried using repellents and keeping windows shut, but they always seem to find a way in. The other day, I even cleaned out standing water from my garden thinking that would help, but honestly, I feel like I’m missing something. I've read that wearing light-colored clothes helps too, but it’s not practical all the time, right? What else can I do? Has anyone tried those mosquito nets? Are there any specific plants or stuff that can help repel them? Or do I need to get super serious and call pest control? I'm really looking for tips on how to avoid dengue mosquitoes because I just can’t afford to get sick like that. Any advice would be super appreciated!

To avoid dengue mosquitoes, it’s crucial to take a layered approach to mosquito control. You’ve done well with repellents and removing standing water, as those are key steps. First, ensure you’re using an effective mosquito repellent with DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus on exposed skin. Reapply as directed on the label, especially in high-risk areas. Mosquitoes carrying the dengue virus are usually active during the day, so it’s important to take precautions even then. Installing window and door screens can help keep mosquitoes out while allowing for ventilation. If screens are not possible, make sure to close doors quickly and use air conditioning if you have it. Mosquito nets can be useful, particularly for sleeping areas, to provide a barrier at night and day. There’s some evidence suggesting plants like citronella and lavender could repel mosquitoes, but their effectiveness varies. They’re not foolproof solutions, but planting them around might contribute to a more mosquito-unfriendly environment. As for clothing, wearing long sleeves and pants, even if they’re not light-colored, can reduce exposed skin that mosquitoes can bite. You can also treat your clothes with permethrin, an insect repellent for fabrics, to enhance protection. It’s not always practical to rely solely on self-implemented measures. If the mosquito population seems overwhelming, engaging professional pest control services could be a well-founded decision. They can apply treatments to your garden and surroundings to lower mosquito breeding. Regularly checking and cleaning places where water may collect, like flower pots, clogged gutters, and bird baths, is essential. When considering changes around your home, remain mindful of the environment. Avoid using chemicals excessively. Remaining vigilant and sticking to varied prevention methods will give you the best shot at minimizing your risk of dengue from mosquitoes.
