can spider veins go away - #26622
I am really freaking out about these spider veins on my legs. Like, they just popped up outta nowhere and it feels like they’re multiplying! I’m only 32 and I know I’ve been on my feet a ton with work, but seriously, can spider veins go away by themselves?! I’ve been trying this new lotion everyone’s raving about, but I can’t tell if it’s doing anything. I read some stuff that said they might fade over time— like, does that ever really happen? Or am I just gonna be stuck with these ugly veins? My friend at work was like “just wear long pants or cover them up” but that’s not a real solution, right? I went to a doc last week and they told me there are treatments but that’s kinda overwhelming. I'm also worried about side effects and costs, OMG! Can spider veins go away without treatment, or are these bad boys here to stay? I need some real advice cause I can’t deal with this on top of everything else going on.

Doctors' responses
Spider veins, I’m sorry to say, typically don’t go away on their own; they’re generally permanent unless treated. They might not fade substantially over time. Spider veins, also known as telangiectasias, form mainly due to increased pressure in blood vessels and weaken valves, often influenced by factors like prolonged standing, genetics, or hormonal changes. While lotions can improve the appearance of your skin or provide temporary relief for symptoms like itching they won’t usually be able to make the veins themselves disappear. It’s understandable why treatments might seem overwhelming given various options like sclerotherapy where a solution is injected to collapse the vein, laser therapy that diminishes veins through focused light, or even surgical options in extreme cases. The choice of treatment would depend on the severity and extent of the spider veins and your personal preference. Costs and side effects will differ across treatments, so discussing it in detail with a specialized vascular doctor might provide clarity. Minimally invasive procedures can effectively reduce or eliminate spider veins with relatively few side effects. That said, lifestyle changes such as avoiding long periods of standing or sitting, elevating your legs when possible, wearing compression stockings, and exercising regularly can alleviate some of the symptoms or prevent new ones from forming. If you’re overly concerned or considering treatment varicose veins, consulting with a specialist to explore the pros and cons of specific procedures in your context is advisable.
