Doctors’ responses

If you’re already consulting a dermatologist and on medication, that’s a good step, but still getting acne every few days can be really frustrating. Sticking to the treatment plan your dermatologist prescribed is essential. Ensure you’re using your prescribed medications consistently; some treatments take weeks to show improvements. Avoid over-washing your face, as this could irritate the skin further; twice a day is usually sufficient with your salicylic acid-based facewash. Consider whether any skincare or makeup products contain oils or ingredients that might clog pores. It’s common for even non-comedogenic products to have a different effect on different skin types. Sleep hygiene and stress levels can be surprising factors affecting acne, so aim for regular, sufficient sleep and explore stress-reduction techniques if relevant in your lifestyle. Additionally, drinking plenty of water can support your skin’s health, though it’s not a direct cause of acne reduction. If after following all recommendations and your dermatologist’s advice closely, your acne persists, re-consulting for potential alternative treatments might be necessary. Some cases require trying different medications, like hormonal therapies or sometimes oral antibiotics, depending on the underlying causes. Be sure to communicate clearly with your doctor about any potential side effects or if your symptoms worsen.
