which fruit is best in dengue - #15827

Sia

I am really struggling to figure out which fruit is best in dengue after my sister got diagnosed with it last week. She started getting high fevers, and we were all freaking out when the doctor said it’s dengue. Anyway, she’s been feeling super weak and we want to make sure she gets all the right nutrition now. I heard some fruits might help boost her recovery but not sure which fruit is best in dengue. I tried looking it up but there’s just so much info out there! Some say papaya is good, and others mention oranges for vitamin C. But will any fruit actually help with the platelets? She's not really feeling like eating much, but yesterday she managed to have some watermelon and a bit of banana. Is there a specific fruit that can really make a difference? I feel like we need to nail this down since she’s been having a rough time. I just don't wanna make it worse or something by giving her the wrong stuff. If you’ve had experience with this or know which fruit is best in dengue, please share! I feel like we’re running out of time.

When it comes to managing dengue, the key focus is hydrating well, maintaining nutritional intake, and closely monitoring her condition—especially her platelet levels and any signs of bleeding. While no fruit is a miracle cure, some can offer specific benefits. Papaya is often recommended due to studies suggesting papaya leaf extract might help improve platelet count—though it’s the extract, not the fruit itself, traditionally used. However, papaya as a fruit still provides vitamins and hydration. Oranges and other citrus fruits can supply vitamin C, which supports the immune system. Offering her fruits like watermelon or oranges can aid in keeping her hydrated, which is critical during dengue given the risk of dehydration from fever and possible lack of appetite. Bananas are also useful; they’re easy on the stomach and rich in nutrients like potassium, essential especially if she’s dealing with digestive issues. Just focus on what she can manage to eat. If she’s not eating much, be careful to avoid offering high-fiber fruits that might be heavy on digestion. While fruits are beneficial, the overall goal is balanced nutrition, hydration (water, clear soups, or coconut water), and rest. If she exhibits warning signs like persistent vomiting, bleeding gums, or a drop in platelet counts, seek medical attention immediately. It’s also vital to follow the medical team’s advice tailored for her specific conditions and blood test results. Emergency care or hospitalization may be required if her symptoms worsen, so keep a watch on her overall wellbeing and ensure she’s staying hydrated and monitored effectively.
