can we eat apple during cold - #24092

Priya

I am feeling really confused about something and hope someone can help. I caught this nasty cold last week, and I’ve been feeling quite lousy. My throat hurts, and I’ve been sneezing non-stop. Anyway, my mom keeps telling me I should eat apples because they are healthy, but I’ve heard mixed stuff about eating fruit during a cold. Can we eat apple during cold? I mean, I love apples, they’re one of my faves, but I don’t know if they’re good for me right now. I’ve tried to look this up but everything is just super vague. Some say fruits are good, others say they can irritate your throat more. I just want to be sure I’m making the right call! Like, can we eat apple during cold without feeling worse? I actually had one yesterday, but now I’m kinda worried it wasn't a great idea. Should I stick to apples, or maybe avoid them for a bit? And what if they make my throat hurt more? Ugh, it's so confusing! Any thoughts?

Yes, you can definitely eat apples during a cold. Apples are a nutritious fruit that can actually be beneficial to consume, even when you’re sick. They are packed with vitamins, like vitamin C, and antioxidants, which help support your immune system. Eating an apple may not directly cure your cold, but it can contribute to your overall nutrition and health. The concern about apples or fruits potentially irritating your throat is understandable, especially if your throat is feeling particularly sore. However, apples typically shouldn’t exacerbate throat discomfort. If you find the texture of an apple uncomfortable when biting into it, you might try peeling it or cutting it into smaller pieces to make it easier on the throat. Alternatively, you could try applesauce, which has the same nutrients but is softer and less work for your throat. Still, everyone’s different, and if you notice that eating apples seems to worsen your throat irritation, you might wait until your symptoms subside a bit and stick to softer, soothing foods — like broths or herbal teas — in the meantime. Staying well-hydrated with water, tea, and soothing broths can also help ease throat soreness and support recovery. Continually monitor how you’re feeling, and if you notice any worsening of symptoms, consider reaching out to a healthcare professional for further advice. Generally, maintaining a balanced diet with a variety of nutrients is key to supporting your body’s recovery.
