can we drink milk in morning

Tara

I am always hopping out of bed at like the crack of dawn, and I've heard all these things about breakfast being the most important meal and drinkin milk in morning seems to come up a lot. Some say it's good for you, but then I also read somewhere that people have issues with it. I mean, I used to drink a glass of milk every morning but lately I've been feeling kinda bloated and not sure if that’s normal? Do I have some intolerance or something? My sister told me that can we drink milk in morning and be fine, but I switched to almond milk for a while and it just doesn't hit the spot like regular milk does! But then I wonder, what is the best option for breakfast? Like: is milk in morning better than having no milk at all? It just gets confusing. Plus, I keep thinking about calcium and how milk is good for my bones, right? Do people actually still drink milk in morning? Or are we all supposed to stop? I feel like I need some clarity on this; is drinking milk really a good way to start the day or should I be looking for something else? How do others feel when they change their morning routine? I really just want to know if we can drink milk in morning and feel good about it.

Doctors' responses

Yes, you can drink milk in the morning, and for many people, it’s still a popular choice. Milk provides a good source of calcium, which is beneficial for bone health, along with protein and other essential nutrients. However, if you’re feeling bloated after drinking milk, that might indicate lactose intolerance, a common condition where the body doesn’t efficiently digest lactose, the sugar in milk. Symptoms often include bloating, gas, or diarrhea after consuming dairy. Switching to lactose-free milk or trying plant-based alternatives like almond milk may reduce these symptoms, although I understand almond milk doesn’t quite have the same taste profile. Some people can tolerate yogurt or hard cheeses better, as lactose content varies in dairy products. When it comes to breakfast, variety is key: consider including whole grains, fruits, and proteins to round out your meal, supporting sustained energy throughout the morning. Keep an eye out for how your body responds to different foods, as everyone’s tolerances can differ. If you suspect lactose intolerance, you might try eliminating milk for a short period and reintroducing it to see if symptoms improve. If they persist, consulting with a healthcare provider can offer further insights—perhaps through testing—to determine if it’s lactose intolerance or another issue. They can help tailor advice specifically to your needs, ensuring your breakfast routine supports your health well-being without any discomfort.
