Ulipristal hace dias y no baja la menstruacion

Arjun

I am kinda worried because hace dias I've been taking Ulipristal, and I still haven’t had my menstruacion. It feels like an eternity! I took it to delay my period, but now I’m stuck in this limbo. My cycles are usually pretty regular, but here I am, waiting and nothing is coming! I know some people say it can take a while to kick in, but like how long is too long? One of my friends said she experienced weird symptoms after taking Ulipristal, like headaches and nausea, and I’ve had those too, but is that normal? Sometimes, I can't help but think maybe I did something wrong or messed it up. I just want to know, does it usually take this much time? What's the deal if my menstruacion doesn’t show up soon? It’s stressing me out more than I thought! Should I wait a few more days or like, check in with a doctor? I just need some insight from you all, any personal experiences or advice on this would be great! Thanks!

Doctors' responses

Taking Ulipristal, often known for its use as emergency contraception, can lead to changes in your menstrual cycle. It’s not uncommon to experience a delay in your period after taking it. Ulipristal can affect the hormones that regulate your cycle, resulting in an earlier or later start of your menstrual period; however, if your period is more than a week late, it’s generally advisable to take a pregnancy test, just to rule that out. About the side effects, headaches and nausea are indeed reported by some individuals after taking Ulipristal, so those symptoms you’re experiencing can be considered relatively normal. If the side effects become unmanageable or persist beyond a reasonable duration, consulting a healthcare provider could help explore other underlying causes or solutions. A delay in menstruation can be stressful, but it’s important to know that experiencing one irregular cycle doesn’t necessarily indicate a severe problem. Yet, if this uncertainty is causing considerable anxiety or if you’ve experienced other unusual symptoms, it might be beneficial to discuss these concerns with your healthcare provider. They can offer personalized advice, reassurance, and investigate if there’s anything else affecting your cycle. Additionally, monitor your symptoms and menstrual cycle over the upcoming days. Should your period not arrive within a week or if there are any other concerning symptoms, seek medical evaluation to ensure everything is proceeding normally. While waiting, these measures could help ease your mind and guide you toward the right care based on your specific situation.
