Irregular periods can sometimes occur due to a variety of reasons, including infections and the use of antibiotics. However, urinary tract infections themselves are not commonly linked directly to changes in the menstrual cycle. The use of antibiotics might indirectly influence your cycle by affecting your gut and vaginal flora, although this is not universally the case for everyone. Stress, changes in weight, diet, physical activity, or underlying conditions, like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or thyroid disorders, might also disrupt your cycle. If these irregularities persist or are accompanied by other symptoms — like significant pain, very heavy bleeding, or other unusual symptoms — you should discuss them with a healthcare provider. They’ll likely perform a thorough assessment of your medical history, lifestyle, and a physical examination. If needed, they may order tests such as blood work or an ultrasound to understand the root cause of the menstrual irregularities. In the meantime, tracking your cycle carefully and noting any additional symptoms could provide beneficial information for your doctor. Avoid self-medicating with antibiotics without medical guidance, as incorrect usage can lead to resistance and reduced effectiveness. Staying hydrated, maintaining balanced nutrition, and managing stress can be helpful while you’re seeing how things develop. But if there’s any concern or discomfort, don’t hesitate to book an appointment with your healthcare provider to ensure that everything is on track. It’s important your treatment is aligned with your overall health needs.
