Missing a period can be concerning, and since you’re 22 and not sexually active, pregnancy isn’t a factor here. There are several possible reasons for a missed period, including stress, significant weight loss or gain, excessive exercise, or underlying medical conditions like thyroid disorders or polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Back pain, in your case, might be an unrelated musculoskeletal issue or it could possibly be linked with hormonal changes in your body. First, consider any recent changes in your lifestyle — like diet, sleep patterns, or stress levels — as these can affect your menstrual cycle. If stress is a factor, finding ways to manage it, such as regular exercise, yoga, or mindfulness, can be helpful. In the meantime, for the back pain, you could try over-the-counter pain relief like ibuprofen, assuming you have no allergies or contraindications to it, and apply heat through a heating pad on the affected area to soothe the muscles. Persistent missed periods or ongoing back pain should be evaluated by a healthcare professional, especially if you miss another cycle. A doctor can perform a physical examination, may recommend blood tests to check hormone levels, or potentially an ultrasound to check on your ovaries and uterus. Ensuring regular follow-ups is essential if symptoms persist. Addressing the root issue can often get things back to normal, and a doctor can guide you on whether any specific interventions are required based on the findings.
