What to do about itching after stopping cetirizine and how to taper it safely? - #30510
Hello Doctor, I would like further guidance regarding itching that happens after stopping cetirizine. I did not have any ongoing allergy or generalized itching problem before. My forehead itching/allergy started only after using a skincare serum and improved after I stopped using that product. I consulted a dermatologist for this issue and was prescribed cetirizine along with a medicated shampoo, which I used. I took cetirizine regularly for several months. Now, whenever I stop cetirizine, I start experiencing generalized itching all over my body after about 2–3 days. There is no rash, redness, bumps, swelling, breathing difficulty, fever, or pain. I never had this whole-body itching before taking cetirizine, which makes me wonder if it may be related to stopping the medicine. Could you please suggest a safe treatment plan, whether this could be rebound itching, and if there is a suitable alternative medicine or tapering method to stop cetirizine safely while controlling symptoms?
