Doctors’ responses

Choosing to marry someone with type 2 diabetes (DM) should consider various factors, focusing on health management rather than the diagnosis itself. Managing type 2 diabetes effectively often enables individuals to lead a typical, healthy life. A significant factor is how well he manages his condition—adherence to medication, diet, exercise, and regular healthcare visits can significantly mitigate complications associated with diabetes. As for potential issues with pregnancy and the health of children, women married to diabetic partners can generally have normal pregnancies, provided that the condition is well-controlled. While there’s a genetic component to type 2 diabetes, it doesn’t automatically mean children will have it. Lifestyle and diet significantly influence the risk, and with a healthy lifestyle, the risk of passing the condition may be decreased. Ultimately, a relationship decision involves understanding and supporting your potential partner’s health needs, possibly involving attending healthcare visits together to grasp the demands of managing diabetes. If this is something that the girl in question feels comfortable and prepared to take on, it may not be a barrier at all. Encouraging him to follow a healthy lifestyle can be a collective journey, contributing to his well-being and potentially reducing any risks for your family down the line. However, if concerns persist, discussing them openly with both each other and a healthcare provider can assist in making an informed decision.
