how to use gond - #23753

Aisha

I am really confused about how to use gond. I’ve been reading a bit about it because my friend swears by it for health benefits, but I don't really get it. A few weeks ago, I felt super fatigued and my eating habits have been a mess lately. So, I decided, why not try gond? I bought some from a local shop, but the thing is, I don't know how to use gond at all! Do I mix it with water or eat it raw? What is the best way of consuming it? I tried adding it to my smoothies once, but it just kind of clumped up and made it weird, plus my smoothie tasted off somehow. Also, I read something about how to use gond in desserts or something? Like, do I need to cook it first? That'd be a ton of work, I'm not exactly a master chef or anything! I really want to feel better & get more energy, but this whole gond thing is stressing me out. Any tips or best practices on how to use gond properly, like what works for you? Hoping to figure it out soon before I lose my patience with it!

Gond, also known as edible gum, is commonly used in traditional Indian recipes, often valued for its perceived health benefits including boosting energy levels. However, its application may not be straightforward if you’re unfamiliar with it. For most uses, gond is typically fried and then incorporated into recipes. Frying helps it puff up and become easier to use in sweet dishes like laddoos or other desserts. It’s not typically consumed raw or simply mixed into drinks as you found out with the smoothie experience. To prepare gond, heat a small amount of ghee or oil in a pan and add the gond; it will puff up and turn slightly golden. You can then crush it lightly if needed and use it in recipes requiring such an ingredient. Besides desserts, it’s sometimes added to a kind of porridge. In terms of health, it might provide a carbohydrate boost, but don’t expect a miracle energy fix if your diet isn’t properly balanced otherwise. Keep in mind that for energy and overall wellbeing, addressing the fundamentals like sleep, diet, exercise, and hydration is essential. If your fatigue persists, you should consult with a healthcare provider to explore possible underlying issues. Remember that while traditional remedies can complement, they shouldn’t replace clinically-proven treatments or thorough evaluations.
