does sugarcane increase weight - #24393

Zoya

I am starting to really wonder about sugarcane and its effects. My friend has been telling me how much he loves sugarcane juice and that it’s super healthy, right? But I recently heard someone mention that sugarcane actually might contribute to weight gain, and now I can’t stop thinking about it. I mean, I’ve been trying to shed a few pounds to fit into my old jeans, and during summer I've been drinking quite a bit of sugarcane juice because it's so refreshing. Just last week, I ordered a large one, and I swear, it felt like a sugar bomb!! I, actually, didn’t notice any weight loss after that, and even thought I was being careful with other foods. Does sugarcane increase weight? Could it be that even with just juice, I'm having too much sugar? I read somewhere about the calories in sugarcane, but it’s just so yummy, especially on hot days. My lifestyle isn't super active either, which has me worrying even more. If I keep drinking it, like daily or something, am I just setting myself back in my weight loss journey? What’s the real deal? Do I need to cut this out completely to see a difference or is it fine in moderation? Thanks for any thoughts!

Sugarcane juice can indeed be a refreshing and natural drink, but your friend’s enthusiasm about its health benefits might come with caveats, especially if weight loss is a goal you’re focusing on. With regards to weight gain, it all comes down to calories. Sugarcane juice is relatively high in sugar and, consequently, calories. Even though it’s a natural form of sugar, consuming it in large quantities can add up to a significant calorie intake, potentially hindering weight loss efforts. A large glass could easily contain around 200 to 250 calories, which can make a big difference if such drinks are a regular part of your diet and you’re not balancing this out with physical activity or reduced calorie intake elsewhere.

If your goal is to lose weight, moderation is key. You don’t necessarily have to cut it out completely, but be mindful of portion sizes and how often you indulge. Consider swapping out some servings of sugarcane juice with lower-calorie alternatives, like water infused with slices of citrus or herbal teas. Staying active can also help balance your caloric intake and supports weight management. Pay attention to the rest of your diet as well, ensuring consistency with whole, nutrient-rich foods that can help you feel full without extra energy intake.

If you’re unsure whether your sugarcane juice is affecting your progress, keep a food diary for a week or two. Track what you’re eating and drinking, including portion sizes, and how you feel about your satiety and energy levels. You might also find it helpful to consult with a dietitian or a nutritionist to personalize your approach, taking into account your complete diet, lifestyle, and personal health goals. This approach can help you enjoy the refreshment without compromising your weight management goals too.
