is lauki good for diabetes - #24963

Ranveer

I am really trying to figure out if lauki is good for diabetes. A few weeks ago, I noticed my blood sugar levels were going up, like higher than usual after meals, and my doctor suggested I really watch what I eat. I've been looking into different foods, and lauki kept coming up. I've heard it's low in calories and helps with weight management, but I’m not sure is lauki good for diabetes? Like, can I eat lauki sabzi daily and expect to see some improvements? My friend swears by it, says it helped her control her levels after she added it to her diet—although I'm not quite sold just yet. I tried this lauki soup last week, and honestly, it was... not my favorite thing ever, lol, but I'm willing to switch up my meals if it helps! Also, do I need to worry about how I cook lauki? I mean, like, frying it versus steaming it? Does that change anything? I really feel confused about finding the right foods, and all this info overload is making me super anxious. Can anyone share some experience or insights on if lauki is good for diabetes or how to incorporate it into meals without hating life?

Lauki, or bottle gourd, could be a beneficial addition to your diet if you have diabetes. It’s low in calories and high in water content, which can be good for weight management—an essential part of managing diabetes. Lauki is also known for its fiber content, improving digestion and potentially helping regulate blood sugar levels. However, lauki alone is not a magic bullet; it should be part of a balanced diet tailored to your individual needs and preferences. Eating lauki sabzi daily could be helpful as part of a well-rounded meal plan. As for preparation, steaming or boiling lauki is preferable as it retains more nutrients and avoids added fats that come with frying. Frying can not only increase caloric content but also add unhealthy fats which are not ideal for maintaining optimal blood sugar levels. You might want to experiment with different recipes. Perhaps lauki raita or adding it to curries can make it more palatable for you, rather than sticking solely to soups or a single form. Keep in mind that consistent moderation with all food groups while keeping an eye on carbohydrate intake overall is crucial. If you feel anxious or overwhelmed, it might help to work with a dietitian who can provide personalized guidance based on your lifestyle and preferences. While lauki can be a healthy addition, don’t overlook the importance of an overall healthy diet, regular physical activity, and adhering to the medical advice you’ve received. If you notice any significant changes in your blood sugar levels or feel unsure about dietary changes, always consult with your healthcare provider.
