do ashwagandha increase weight - #25017

Simran

I am really starting to wonder if do ashwagandha increase weight, because I’ve been taking it for about a month now and I feel like my appetite has gone through the roof. I’ve been trying to eat healthy but all I want is snacks all the time! Some of my friends said that do ashwagandha increase weight and that maybe I should stop taking it, but I was also told it’s good for stress, which I definitely struggle with. Last week, I weighed myself and I’ve gained like 5 pounds, maybe it’s just holiday food? I’ve been working out, but honestly not as much as I should. I really thought that the supplement would help me manage my stress without messing with my weight. I keep hearing both sides of the story – some say do ashwagandha increase weight while others say it helps with metabolism. I mean, I don’t know what to think anymore. Should I continue with it or is there a possibility that this weight gain is from the ashwagandha? I really don’t want to pack on more pounds. Anyone with experience here?

It’s understandable to feel confused given the mixed messages about ashwagandha. Current research suggests that ashwagandha itself is not directly linked to weight gain; however, some indirect effects could be at play here. Ashwagandha is an adaptogenic herb commonly used for its stress-reducing properties. By potentially lowering cortisol levels—a stress hormone linked to weight gain, especially around the abdomen—ashwagandha could theoretically help reduce stress-induced weight gain. But, this doesn’t mean that taking ashwagandha automatically leads to losing weight. One of the mechanisms by which it may help with stress is by boosting energy and sometimes appetite, which might explain the increase in your snack cravings. It sounds like your recent weight gain could be a mix of several things: holiday food indulgence, changes to workout routine, and possibly a rise in appetite. It’s important you also consider your overall lifestyle, including diet and physical activity, when trying to manage weight changes. Also, factors like sleep patterns and stress levels affect weight. If you’ve noted a marked increase in your appetite since you started taking it, and if that concerns you, perhaps tapering off the supplement might help delineate its effects. Additionally, other lifestyle adjustments—like sticking to a balanced, nutrient-rich diet and regular workout routine—might be more beneficial in managing weight. If stress remains a significant concern, consider other strategies like mindfulness practices or consulting with a healthcare professional for tailored advice. It’s important to monitor how any supplement affects you personally and consult a healthcare provider if the weight changes persist or you remain concerned.
