is it good to drink amla juice in empty stomach - #25074

Parthiv

I am really curious about this whole thing with amla juice! I've heard a lot about its health benefits, but I'm not sure if drinking amla juice in empty stomach is a good idea. Last week, I decided to start my mornings with this amla juice thing after seeing a friend rave about it. The first couple of days were okay, but then I started feeling a bit weird – like my stomach was churning, and I was just not hungry at all! I read somewhere online that drinking amla on empty stomach can boost metabolism and all, but I’m worried maybe that jives for some people, but not for everyone? My friend said it's like magic for her, but other folks said it can cause acidity or be harsh on the gut if you’re not used to it. I really want to reap the benefits but don’t wanna feel uneasy every morning! Has anyone experienced similar or is it just me being sensitive? What do you guys think? Is it good to drink amla juice in empty stomach or should I be trying it with food or something? Any tips would really help!

Doctors' responses

Drinking amla juice on an empty stomach can indeed offer some health benefits, but it’s not suitable for everyone. Amla, or Indian gooseberry, is rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, which may boost immunity and metabolism. However, it’s also quite acidic. Consuming something acidic on an empty stomach could potentially lead to stomach irritation, especially if your digestive system is sensitive. Your symptoms of a churning stomach and lack of hunger could be related to this. It’s worth noting that while some people tolerate it well and experience positive effects, others may encounter adverse reactions like increased acidity or digestive discomfort. To see if it’s causing your symptoms, you might try having amla juice with or after meals, instead of on an empty stomach. Mixing it with a bit of water or a pinch of salt can also reduce its acidity. Alternatively, you could try cutting down the quantity initially and gradually increasing it as your gut adjusts. If you continue to feel discomfort, it might be best to stop and get advice from a healthcare provider, particularly if you have any pre-existing gastrointestinal issues. They can offer guidance tailored to your health history. Remember, individual responses to foods and supplements can vary, so listening to your body is key.
