mosambi is heat or cold - #25141

Raj

I am kinda confused about this fruit called mosambi. I love how it tastes but heard mixed things about its effects on the body. Like, some friends say mosambi is heat and should be avoided in summer, while others swear it helps cool you down. I don't get how that works. Is mosambi is heat or cold, for real? Just last week, I was at a family gathering and everyone was drinking this mosambi juice. My aunt said it was great for hydration in the heat, but then my cousin chimed in saying it could raise body temperature. That made me wonder if I should be cautious eating it. Also, I’ve noticed that when I eat too much of it, I feel a bit off, like maybe a sore throat. Could that be a reaction to mosambi being heat? I don't know if I'm overthinking it. Do any of you guys know what’s the deal? Like, is mosambi is good for cooling down, or am I better off steering clear of it during summer? Would love to get some clarity—I want to enjoy my mosambi but not at the expense of my health!

Doctors' responses

Mosambi, also known as sweet lime, is generally considered a cooling fruit due to its high water content and refreshing nature, making it a popular choice during hot weather for hydration. The confusion between whether it is “heat” or “cold” often arises from traditional beliefs rather than scientific evidence. In many traditional medicine systems, foods are classified by their perceived effects on the body, sometimes leading to mixed opinions like the ones you’ve heard. On a more scientific note, mosambi is rich in vitamin C, potassium, and other nutrients that can support hydration and improve digestion. It can help maintain electrolyte balance, especially in summer, keeping us hydrated and fresh. However, everything should be consumed in moderation, because having too much mosambi might upset your stomach or cause a sore throat due to its acidic nature. This doesn’t necessarily indicate that it’s a “heating” fruit, but just that the body may react to excessive intake of acidic foods. Listening to your body’s response is key; if you feel any discomfort after consuming mosambi, it might be worth reducing how much you eat or drink at one time. Otherwise, mosambi juice can be a healthy, enjoyable way to combat high temperatures.
