advantages of eating curd - #28545

Muhammad

I am feeling really confused about my diet lately, especially when I hear about the advantages of eating curd. For the past month, I've been trying to incorporate more healthy foods into my meals, and I read somewhere that curd can help with digestion and even boost immunity. But honestly, I’m not sure how true that is? I usually get bloated after eating certain dairy products, and that makes me second guess if curd is good for me or not. A friend suggested I switch to curd instead of milk, saying that it has lots of advantages of eating curd, like probiotics and stuff, which are great for gut health. But what if I still feel uncomfortable after eating it? I tried plain curd with fruits, thinking it might help, but some days it just tastes weird to me. Is there any specific way to include curd in my diet that'll help me see the advantages of eating curd without feeling crummy afterward? Also, how much curd should I be consuming to actually feel these advantages of eating curd, if they exist at all? Would love some insights, really don't wanna mess up my nutrition game!

Doctors' responses

Curd, also known as yogurt, can indeed offer several health benefits, especially due to its probiotic content. Probiotics are live bacteria that are beneficial to your gut, aiding in digestion and potentially boosting your immune system. While it’s true that curd might be more easily digestible than other dairy products due to the fermentation process breaking down lactose, if you find yourself feeling bloated or uncomfortable, it may be worth trying smaller amounts initially to see how your body reacts.

Starting with about half a cup a day can be a balanced approach. Incorporating it gradually into your diet allows you to monitor any potential adverse effects. If plain curd doesn’t appeal to you, consider adding a small amount to smoothies, or use it as a base for salad dressings or marinades. This can make the taste more palatable while still reaping the probiotic benefits.

Be mindful that everyone’s gut microbiota is different, so what works for someone else may not work for you. Should your discomfort persist, it might be helpful to consider lactose-free or low-fat curd options, as they can be gentler on the digestive system. Keep in mind that balance and moderation are key. And if symptoms continue, consulting with a healthcare provider is a wise step, as they can offer more personalized advice and check for lactose intolerance or any other condition that might be affecting your digestion.
