can we drink sabja water daily - #22932

Sai

I am really confused about sabja seeds and how they affect my health. A few weeks ago, my friend mentioned that sabja water is super healthy, and I started drinking it every morning. But now I’m starting to wonder, can we drink sabja water daily? I mean, I usually have it mixed with lemon and honey, and it’s like my version of detox water. At first, I felt great—lots of energy and my digestion seemed to be better. But then, I heard some people saying that too much can be harmful?? I’ve seen so many different opinions out there. Last week, I even read a post that said drinking more than a certain amount can lead to side effects or something, but nobody really explained what those side effects are. I really don’t want to overdo it or end up having some weird issue because of it. Can someone help clarify this?? Like, is it totally safe if I just stick to one glass in the morning or should I cut back?? I guess I just want to know if there's a limit—can we drink sabja water daily without risking anything? Any insights would really help! Thx!

Doctors' responses

Drinking sabja water daily is generally considered safe for most people, and it does have some benefits. Sabja seeds, also known as basil seeds, are rich in fiber, which can aid in digestion and help maintain bowel regularity. They also contain antioxidants, which are beneficial for your overall health. However, like anything, moderation is key. Consuming sabja water once a day should be fine, especially if you’ve been feeling good on it, but there are a few considerations to keep in mind.

Some people might experience mild side effects if they consume sabja seeds in large quantities, including digestive issues like bloating or discomfort. This is often due to their high fiber content, which, while beneficial, can cause problems if your digestive system isn’t used to it or if you haven’t had enough water throughout the day. Another thing to watch for is potential allergic reactions, though they are rare. Since you mentioned adding lemon and honey, that’s generally a healthy combination, but again, moderation is important to prevent excess calorie intake from honey.

If you’re healthy and don’t have any food allergies or specific health concerns like swallowing difficulties or digestive disorders, it’s safe to continue with one glass of sabja water daily. But it’s wise to listen to your body and scale back if you notice any discomfort or unusual symptoms. If you have medical conditions or take medications that might react with high fiber or particular foods, it’d be best to consult with your doctor to avoid any unwanted interactions. Just ensure your daily diet is rich in variety to provide your body with all necessary nutrients. If you have any persistent issues or are unsure, it’s always a good idea to check with a healthcare professional.
