how to store apple cider vinegar - #23358

Tara

I am really confused about how to store apple cider vinegar, and I hope someone can help me out here! I bought a huge bottle of apple cider vinegar a few weeks ago because I heard about its health benefits, but I've seen sooo many different tips online about how to store apple cider vinegar. Like, should it be in the fridge or can it just sit in the pantry? I even read somewhere that it might lose potency if I don't keep it right or something. Last week, I accidentally left a bottle of apple cider vinegar open for a night — yikes! I’m worried that might’ve ruined it? Also, I didn't notice any mold or anything weird floating around, so is that a good sign? Honestly, I'm hoping to use apple cider vinegar for digestion and skincare, but I don't want to mess it up, you know? And then there’s the question of how long it actually lasts before going bad. Can I just keep it in my cupboard next to the olive oil, or does that not work for how to store apple cider vinegar? Any advice on this would seriously be appreciated!!

Apple cider vinegar is actually quite a resilient product in terms of storage, and it’s not too complicated to keep it in good condition. You don’t need to refrigerate it; a cool, dark place like your pantry or a cupboard is just fine. It’s best to keep it in a tightly sealed container to maintain its quality and prevent any contaminants (like dust or insects) from getting in. Even if you accidentally left the bottle open for a night, it’s unlikely to have ruined it. As long as there’s no visible contamination or off odor, it’s generally safe to use. Apple cider vinegar has natural antimicrobial properties, which help it resist spoilage.

In terms of potency, it doesn’t diminish significantly as long as it’s stored properly; exposure to light and heat might have a slight effect over extended periods, but typically it remains effective for quite a while. You’ll often find that apple cider vinegar can last indefinitely, but for peak quality, it might be good to aim to use it within 3-5 years. Pairing it with olive oil in your cupboard is perfectly fine. Mold or unusual substances floating are more likely with vinegar that has additional ingredients, so if you’re seeing a “mother” (that cloudiness) forming, it’s actually a sign of healthy organic vinegar.

For digestion and skincare, apple cider vinegar can be diluted with water for safe usage. It’s a useful addition to your routine when used correctly. Always ensure to patch-test it on your skin before full application to avoid potential irritation. Using a glass container can help avoid any chemical reactions if you’re storing a bigger batch. Follow these tips, and you should be good to go!
