can we drink beetroot juice everyday - #24320

Keya

I am kinda worried about my health lately, especially after reading about beetroot juice. I started drinking it to help with my blood pressure, but now I’m wondering, can we drink beetroot juice everyday? Like, I’ve been having a glass every morning for almost a week, and some days I feel super energized, but then I have that nagging thought—am I overdoing it? I mean, I heard that it can be really good for you, but I also read that too much of anything might not be good. My friend says I can drink beetroot juice everyday without any issues, but I wonder if that’s actually true. Plus, I’ve been having these weird moments where I feel a bit lightheaded and I’m not sure if it’s related. Also, I do have some kidney stones in the past, and I’ve read beetroot can have oxalates. Kinda freaking out here. Can we drink beetroot juice everyday or should I take a break? Is there a limit or anything I should keep in mind? Any insights would be helpful!

Doctors' responses

Drinking beetroot juice every day can be beneficial due to its high nitrate content, which has been shown to help lower blood pressure and improve blood flow—provided it’s done in moderation. However, you’re right to question whether drinking it daily is appropriate, especially considering your experience with kidney stones and occasional lightheadedness. Beetroot juice is high in oxalates, which can contribute to the formation of kidney stones, particularly if you’ve had stones in the past. Therefore, if you’re predisposed to kidney stones, it might be wise to limit your intake of beetroot juice or at least consult with your healthcare provider to check if your current intake is apropriate for you. As for the lightheaded feeling, it’s less common but possible that some individuals might experience blood pressure dropping too low if they’re sensitive to the effects of beetroot juice, especially when combined with blood pressure medications or low-salt diets. Pay attention to how your body reacts and consider taking your blood pressure to see if there’s a noticeable drop. Moderate consumption could mean drinking a glass every other day instead of daily, or simply smaller servings. A safe starting approach could be about 250 ml (a regular-sized glass) of beetroot juice every two to three days, but adjust as needed based on how you’re feeling and any advice from your doctor. Don’t forget to have a well-rounded diet that doesn’t overly rely on just one food or drink for health benefits—variety is key in nutrition. If you continue feeling lightheaded or uncertain, especially given your medical history, touch base with your doctor just to make sure there aren’t underlying issues requiring attention.
