will yoga help in weight loss - #24482

Nisha

I am really trying to figure out if yoga will help in weight loss because I have been struggling with my weight for a while now. Last month, I decided to get serious about my fitness after realizing my clothes just didn't fit right anymore, ugh. I started jogging and eating healthier, but I also incorporated yoga into my routine because I've heard it’s good for overall wellness. I love how calming it feels, but I’m not sure if it's actually doing anything for my weight loss goals. I've lost a couple of pounds since I started everything, but I can’t tell if it’s from the yoga or just cutting down on junk food. Sometimes, I get super hungry after my sessions, like it makes me want to snack! I keep reading that yoga can be great for weight loss but then there’s this part of me that doubts it. Like, will yoga help in weight loss if I’m doing it only a few times a week? Should I be focusing more on intense workouts instead? I mean, how much yoga do I need to do to really see a difference? I feel like I’m in this limbo, really wanting to believe that yoga will help in weight loss, but not fully trusting it to deliver results. Would love to hear any thoughts or experiences from you all!

Yoga can indeed aid in weight loss, but its contribution often depends on several factors including the style of yoga practiced, the consistency of practice, and overall lifestyle choices. Some forms like power yoga, vinyasa, or ashtanga involve continuous movement and can be more effective for burning calories compared to gentler forms such as hatha or restorative yoga. When incorporated with your jogging and healthy eating, it can complement your weight loss efforts by building strength, improving flexibility, and enhancing mental focus, which in turn may also help in maintaining regular physical activity.

While it’s great that you feel calm and enjoy yoga, substantial weight loss might require combining this with some more high-intensity exercises. It’s normal to feel hungry post-yoga as your body may require energy to recover. Being mindful about snacking and opting for nutrient-dense foods can address this without hindering your goals. If you’re practicing yoga only a few times a week, you may not see a significant impact on weight by itself, especially if the rest of your routine is sedentary.

Consider tracking your weight along with any noticeable changes in how your clothes fit or how you feel overall physically and mentally. These are often good indicators of progress beyond the figures on a scale. If you’re ever unsure, consulting with a fitness professional or a dietitian can provide insights tailored to your specific goals, ensuring your plans are effective for weight loss while maintaining a balanced and enjoyable routine.
