does roasted chana increase weight - #27453
I am trying to figure out if roasted chana actually increases weight or if it’s just a myth. A couple weeks ago, I started snacking on roasted chana because I heard they’re healthy, high in protein, and a great alternative to chips. But then, my friend mentioned something about how too much can actually lead to weight gain. Now I'm super confused! Like, I eat a small bowl everyday while watching TV, sometimes more if I’m hungry – but does roasted chana increase weight? I mean, I know they're a good source of fiber, and I've read a lot about their health benefits, but is there a limit? Someone said that while they can be healthy, the calorie count can sneak up on you if you don’t watch how much you eat. Also, I've noticed my weight has been kinda fluctuating lately. Not sure if it’s the chana or just life in general?! I feel lost. How much roasted chana is too much? Does roasted chana increase weight significantly, or can I keep munching without worrying too much about my waistline? Thanks for any insight here!

Doctors' responses
Roasted chana can be a healthy snack option, being high in protein and fiber, which can certainly help keep you feeling full for longer and might support weight management if consumed in moderation. However, like any food, the calories can add up if you eat them in large quantities, which could lead to weight gain. A small bowl might seem harmless, but if it turns into multiple bowls a day, you could find yourself consuming more calories than you intend to. On average, a 100-gram serving of roasted chana contains about 300-400 calories. So, if weight control is your goal, you might want be a bit mindful of portion sizes.
Instead of just snacking absentmindedly while watching TV, consider measuring out a serving, perhaps around 30 grams, which gives you a decent amount of protein and fiber with fewer calories. Also take into account other foods in your diet; roasted chana should be part of a balanced diet rich in a variety of foods. It’s important to remember that your overall activity level, metabolism, and other dietary habits play a more significant role in weight than any single snack does. If your friend noticed some changes in your weight that are concerning or if you’re uncertain how chana fits into your diet, it could be beneficial to speak with a nutritionist or dietician who can help you tailor your food choices to meet your goals. Keep in mind, weight fluctuation could be due to various factors, not just roasted chana. As such, it might be worth tracking your dietary habits overall while considering physical activity and any other lifestyle changes that might contribute.
