how much curd per day - #27785

Rian

I am really confused about how much curd per day is actually good for you. I mean, I've heard all sorts of things from my mom and friends. Some say it's great for digestion, and others say it can make you gain weight if you eat too much. A little background — I started incorporating more healthy foods into my diet a month ago, and curd seemed like a good option since I’ve read it helps with probiotics and all that stuff. But last week, I noticed that I was having tummy issues after eating it almost daily. Like, I was having yogurt for breakfast, throwing it in smoothies, and sometimes even snacking on it. I'm starting to think maybe I overdid it! But how much curd per day is actually considered safe? I read somewhere that over half a cup can be too much, but isn't it a good source of calcium? I really want to balance it out but also love the taste. Is there a sweet spot for how much curd per day should someone consume without negative side effects? Please help!

It’s true, there’s a lot of buzz around curd, also called yogurt in many parts of the world. It’s generally considered beneficial due to its probiotics, which support gut health. For most adults, consuming about one to two servings of curd per day is considered safe and beneficial. A standard serving is typically around 1/2 cup to 1 cup. This provides a decent amount of calcium and probiotics without overwhelming your digestive system. Regarding your tummy trouble, it’s possible that too much curd might be causing digestive issues, particularly if you’re not used to higher lactose doses or live probiotics. To avoid this, spread out the curd intake across meals rather than consuming it all at once or in large amounts. Keep an eye on how your body reacts; not everyone’s gut flora is the same, and what works for one person may not for another. If you have lactose intolerance or dairy sensitivity, that might also be a factor. You could try reducing your intake or opting for lactose-free varieties, which are gentler on digestion. Also, consider diversifying your sources of probiotics and calcium through different foods like fermented vegetables or fortified plant-based milks. Remember, balance is key. It’s great that you’re focusing on a healthy diet, but make sure to listen to your body. If symptoms persist, you may want to consult a healthcare professional to check for underlying issues, but for most individuals, moderation should help you enjoy curd safely.
